An antenna is a transducer that converts radio frequency electrical signal into electromagnetic wave of the same frequency. The current produces an electrostatic field, thus creating an induction field.

Antenna arrays are used to increase the gain of the antenna. They also increase directivity and reduce beamwidth.

Antennas operate in HF, VHF and UHF spectrum (3 MHz – 1 GHz). Above 1 GHz is the microwave range.

It is observed that in recent years a good number of problems have appeared in GATE examination.

Problems of 1 mark and 2 mark are put in two groups. An elaborate and simple solution to each problem is given.
